ABOUT US
A Distinct Identity
The Evangelical Free Bible Convention, established in 1978 and incorporated in Du Page County, Illinois, originated from churches that separated from the Southern Baptist Convention in 1952 due to doctrinal differences. Currently, it comprises 22 churches with approximately 2600 members in the United States, while having a larger global presence. The organization's headquarters are located in Illinois.
An annual General Conference is convened, focusing on activities like church establishment, evaluation of ordination candidates, and supporting local churches in engaging with unique community outreach efforts, including involvement with prisons, gangs, individuals with criminal backgrounds, the mentally ill, and those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. In the 1950s, they also founded the Evangelical Free Baptist College with campuses in York, Pennsylvania, and Wheatfield, Indiana.
The Evangelical Free Bible Convention adheres to core beliefs such as the divine inspiration of Scripture, the virgin birth, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the significance of baptism as an act of obedience, the Lord's Supper as a commemoration, the ongoing manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the concept of eternal punishment for sinners and eternal happiness for saints. Their eschatological viewpoint is premillennial, and they advocate for marriage being a union between one man and one woman exclusively.
